  • Each of us is a warrior, a protector of patterns that we use to avoid feelings. Reactions come into play whenever we sense the vulnerability of our woundedness consciously or unconsciously. The patterns are often linked to duty, honor, loyalty, discipline. Occasionally they look like courage, but fall apart under deeper scrutiny.
    - Hart Lazer

  • Almost everyone has some addictive pattern. Any reflexive response to stress or anxiety wether conscious or not is a form of addiction. The chief motive of any addiction, of course, is to help one not feel what in fact one is already feeling. Breaking the tyranny of addiction will require one to feel the pain that addiction defends against. No wonder then that addictive patterns have such staying power as flimsy faultering defense againt primal wound.
    - James Hollis
  • It is a painful thing to look at your own trouble and know that yourself and no one else made it.
    - Sophocles
  • Do not fear death so much, but rather inadequate life.
    - Bertolt Brecht
